The NSX is the ASS among the current sports cars, technologically as well as visually. At the heart of the powertrain is a 3.5-liter V6 BiTurbo that produces 507 hp at 6500 rpm. Between the engine block and the 9-speed dual-clutch transmission sits a first small electric motor that produces 48 hp and 147 Nm of torque and is directly connected to the crankshaft of the combustion engine to bridge any turbo lag. The front axle is again powered by two electric motors with 37 hp each, which firstly turn the Honda into an all-wheel drive vehicle and secondly can work according to the torque vectoring principle, i.e. bringing the torque to the wheel that needs it (while the other is gently braked). The system output is 581 hp, the maximum torque 645 Nm. Honda gives a value of 2.9 seconds for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h, the top speed with 307 km/h.
As usual with Honda: it runs like clockwork. Nothing, but nothing at all is felt from the use of the electric motors, no jerking, no twitching, the integration is perfect. And that’s the great art of the NSX: you’re incredibly fast – and you don’t really notice it. In contrast to a Porsche 911 Turbo S, which we described as too perfect, the Japanese still causes goosebumps, because it puts driving skills in the foreground despite all the electronics – you’re as fast as you can be. And once again, most drivers will have run out of both courage and talent by the time the Honda warms up.
