Japanese barrel organ with 240-suction horsepower. That was brave! Honda presented a minimalist roadster with a fascinating powerplant in 1999 – 10 years after the Mazda MX-5.
When the two-liter approaches its rated speed, it no longer sounds like a well-behaved four-cylinder without fascination. It shrieks and grinds and scrapes and screams for more: RPM! Hardly any other drive hurries so easily and greedily through the rev range toward 9,000 rpm. Only beyond this mark does the four-cylinder run into the limiter. Goes like a racing engine. And sounds like it too. And is nevertheless not a sensitive diva, but, typical Honda actually, free of special weaknesses.
