On offer is a true rarity on European roads. The Toyota Supra in the slightly different outer shell, named and baptized – Toyota Soarer !
The Toyota Soarer was a personal-luxury GT coupe built by Toyota in Japan from 1981-2004 on the same floorpan as the Supra. In 1991, the 3rd generation (Z30) was introduced in Japan. The Soar Z30 and the Lexus SC 300/400 shared the same body and many other components, but different powertrains and equipment details. The JZZ30 was the only model sold consistently from the introduction of the Z30 series in 1991 until the end of production in 2000 as the sportiest model in the range. The JZZ30 had the 2.5-liter R6 turbocharged 1JZ-GTE engine. Initially (1991-1996), it had two smaller turbochargers running in parallel and officially delivered 280 bhp (206 kW) of power and 363 Nm of torque at 4800 min. This was the maximum value allowed by the Japanese automakers’ voluntary self-regulation, but the actual performance was higher. In August 1996, as is the case with our model here, the engine received Toyota’s VVTi variable valve timing along with a single, more effective turbocharger, resulting in higher mid-range torque – 378 Nm at just 2400 min with officially unchanged power and lower fuel consumption.
